Le lag et Vista

C'était donc ça, les gros coups de lag que je subissais dans les villes ?
La faute à Vista ?

En tout cas Flying Labs nous fait savoir qu'ils se penchent sur la question. Ils font remonter une bidouille pouvant aider :

We believe that we have discovered a work around for Vista users experiencing lag.

It appears that the conflict revolves around the way Vistas TCP stack resizes its receive window for large amounts of data, contributing to lag issues. Customers that have taken the following steps report successful resolution to the lag problem.

Here's what you do:

1. Be logged in as a user with administrator privileges
2. Open up the start menu, go to All Programs > Accessories
3. Right-click on the Command Prompt icon and choose Run as Administrator
4. Type netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
5. Re-start Pirates of the Burning Sea if its running

To turn the setting back to normal, follow steps 1-3, and type the command netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal

Let us know if you should continue to experience lag issues, or if following these steps resolved this issue by posting to this forum thread.

Et ils donnent pas d'infos sur les effets concrets que ça peux avoir sur les applis ? ils donnent la méthode pour désactiver la chose d'accord, mais si ça résouts les problèmes de lags pourquoi on le réactiverais

Apparemment l'autotuning de vista sert à optimiser la taille et l'envoi des paquets en fonction de la qualité du réseau. Apparemment toujours, c'est parfois beaucoup moins efficace qu'on le voudrait

Disabling auto tuning of TCP Windows Size should not cause any negative effects, only that TCP Window Size will always at default value without ability to optimization to each connection. Anyway, if there is any side effect after turn off auto tuning, simply re-enable back it.

Et en francais dans le texte pour les allergiques : Je résume, windows Vista contrairement à ces prédécesseur s'est vu ajouté la fonctionnalité de régler la taille d'ouverture de la réception des connections TCP entrentes. Logiquement si tous les matériels et servers le gérais ça permettrais vraiment d'optimiser les connections réseaux, cette fonctionnalité existais déjà sous windows 2003 par exemple mais nécessitais de toucher à la base de registre, ce qui est loin d'être évident pour le néophyte. La fonctionnalité à été mise à portée de l'utilisateur sous vista et est activée par défaut. Désactiver la fonctionnalité permet de revenir au fonctionnement des versions antérieurs à Vista avec une taille d'ouverture de la fentre TCP standard pour toutes les connections TCP. Donc la désactivé ne doit avoir aucun effet néfaste sur la qualité des connections et du système. Mais dans le future lorsque tous les matériels et système gèrerons cette optimisation on pourra noter un gains de performance. Voila si j'ai bien compris le truc
